Q: Ipod doesn't have the latest version of itunes

I have recently bought an ipod touch, when I connect it to itunes via a MacBook, itunes states that the ipod needs  a newer version of itunes.  How can I get the latest version of itunes on to the ipod because itunes does see the ipod

iPod touch, iOS 9.3.5

Actually, that message refers to the version of iTunes on your computer. What is your operating system on the computer?

    What computer OS and version?
Also, if a Mac, what model Mac?

    You need:

Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:

    • Mac: OS X v10.8.5 or later
    • PC: Windows 7 or later
    • iTunes 12.3.3 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

It is referring to the iTunes version that is on your MacBook. You may need to update your OS to get a newer version of iTunes on your computer. What OS X version is it currently running? Have you tried to running Software Update on your MacBook recently?

    Hi

I have a MacBook (bought in 2010 I think).  The Operating system is OS X version 10.6.8 and the Itunes version is 11.4

You will need to update the OS to work with the iPod Touch. The OS X version that is available now is El Capitan (10.11.6), and it will be disappearing this week. Open up your Mac App Store app and download it today. You can cancel the install when it wants to install, but you are going to need the file, if you plan on updating the OS on that MacBook.
