    Prior to running EtreCheck,

    1. I checked the hard drive for errors; none found
    2. Reset the SMC
    3. Reset PRAM
    4. Turned "Reduce Transparency" on
    5. Disabled FileVault
    6. Installed OnyX and ran the disk checker and clean up utility for each tab.

    Hello Denton42,

When did you begin to notice this poor performance? Is it only EtreCheck that reports it or can you tell it runs slower than it should?

In most cases, performance this poor can only be caused by a hardware failure. A failing hard drive is the most likely explanation. Sometimes only the hard drive cable can fail.

    Hey etresoft,

I figured it out. I had TrendMicro installed and it was outdated for Yosemite. I also installed El Capitan and some software updates that came with it. Now, my computer is back up to speed and entrecheck reports that my computer's performance is excellent. If the above didn't work, I was going to start checking on the hardware. Thank you for the suggestion.
