Mac OS XI have no volume on my iPod Nano.
Does that mean you don't hear anything on headphones? Did you try different headphones, in case your current headphones are faulty?
Also, if your iPod nano is brand new, make sure you have the headphones plug fully inserted into the headphones jack. It should click into place when fully seated. The fit may be tighter than expected, especially if brand new.

Apple WatchMy ipod is not new - couple years old. My headphones don't work and when I plug it in to my car it doesn't work either. I took it to a Best Buy to have them check the cord for my car and they tried several others and it didn't work. I tried to reset and restart and that didn't work either. I made sure I had the latest iTunes also.

Mac OS XMaybe faulty headphones jack on iPod (or a problem on logic board related to audio output), if you tried several headphones and none work. If you only did a regular Reset (restart) on the iPod, you can try two other things.
Reset Settings - On the iPod's onboard Settings screen, there is a command (at the bottom of list) to Reset Settings (or Reset All Settings). This sets all onboard settings back to default. In case the iPod's volume control is "stuck" on mute for some reason.
Restore - This is done using iTunes, to erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes. In case the iPod's onboard software is corrupted and not working properly.

Mac OS XThen, you probably have a hardware problem on iPod related to sound output.
