Lost mail!!

Sure other people have had this problem but couldn't find any answers.

I Have an iMac, and iPad and iPhone. I have my IMAP e mail set up on all three devices and, on the whole it works great, delete a message from one and they go from all 3 etc.

The problem I have is when I reply to an e mail on either my phone or iPad. I then can't find a copy of the reply that I sent on any of my devices. Nothing shows in the sent items. I get an arrow showing me that I have replied but no way of actually seeing what I wrote!

The only way I get to see it is if that person replies to me again and what I wrote will appear below, but that's no help if they don't reply!!

I've started to just send a new e mail instead of replying, which must annoy who I'm replying to, but it seems the only way to access a record of what's been said.
