Q: Can I use FaceTime over Apple TV without WiFi?

Can I use FaceTime over Apple TV without WiFi (i.e. Connecting with Bluetooth only)? My grandfather has poor vision, and is unable to see the phone screen well enough, but can see the TV ok. We are considering buyin him an Apple TV so he can FaceTime with his family around the country. My mom has an iPhone 6S, and can use FaceTime over the carrier, so that's no issue. Just can't seem to find if this can then be routed through the Apple TV. There's no WiFi at my grandparents' house, as they don't use internet otherwise. Thanks!

Hi Siebertb!

I see that you'd like to know if you can use FaceTime via AirPlay on an Apple TV without having Wi-Fi available. I can understand wanting to use AirPlay for FaceTime, and I'm happy to go over some information for you. but as far as I know then if you put a router in your grands place and both appletv iPhone are connected on that the iPhone would attempt to FaceTime over wifi rather then cellular and if the wifi network did not have internet that would fail

I would suggest a wired connection instead of the Apple TV.

You can use the Digital Av Adapter to mirror the iPhone screen onto the TV. This will enable Facetime to show on the TV.

The TV must have HDMI inputs.
