Hdmi to dvi splitter question

I have a 2012 i7. Its video ports are HDMI or thunderbolt. Is there any reason this model

would be unable to support using an hdmi-dvi adapter cable to feed a powered Dvi

splitter in order to run 2 identical acer monitors - one with a 25 foot cable run, the

other a 6 foot Cable. I had a tripp lite splitter that no longer works after about a

year of being connected this way. Another brand, same function - also stopped

working after a week. I have changed out all components and tested individual

connections, etc. nothing makes sense as to what the fault is.

ONe post indicatedca guy ran into a prob. where his same model stopped 'waking'

displays after being powered off or from sleep mode... He replaced with a "sewell"

MOdel and it worked. I am at a total loss figuring out what the #%#^* is going

on with this.... any suggestions appreciated, thanks!
