Q: Photo thumbnails take up 11 gb. How to lessen

I use iphoto to store my photos.. My understanding is that only thumbnails are stored on my iPhone. It says 11 gb of photos are on the iPhone. Is the a way to choose which albums show on my iPhone? Or any other way to lessen the amount of photo space belong used?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3

If you have iCloud Photo Library enabled, you can't choose - it's an All or Nothing proposition. If you want to reduce the amount of storage Photos uses, choose to keep an Optimized local library. With that option, Photos will dynamically reduce the size of the library when storage space becomes low. It foes that by selectively reducing the resolution of the images stored on the phone. Some will be just tiny thumbnails, but this happens as needed, not all becoming thumbnails all at onece.

If you want to control which images are stored on your phone, turn iCPL off and go back to syncing via iTunes, then turn My Photo Stream on for automatic sync of new images.
