Q: console has no window (Yosemite)

The Console opens... shows the preferences, about windows.. appears to be operating. But there are no windows. Nothing to read.

I tried using File > Open Recent or File > Open Quickly and although all those options are present.. no windows open. Even File > New Log Window does not open a window. The app appears to be running fine.. just zero windows.

Tried dragging a file from ~Library/Logs/ to the (running) Console app... no window.

Already trashed the ~Library/preferences/com.apple.Console.plst...... no help. Repaired permissions from recovery boot.. no help.

Any idea why the Console app has no windows?

I just reinstalled OS10.10.5 two days ago... and all was running great... now this out of the blue.

    Solved....

In an effort to remove the dozens of horribly hideous fonts installed with OS10.10 I had paired down the `Fonts` folders. Seems I removed a font from System/Library/Fonts that the Console requires. Once fonts were restored, the Console opens windows again.

This was solved by opening var/logs/system.log in a text editor and checking the messages. There was an NSFont error when launching Console.

I wish Apple would release a list of required fonts in all locations -- Library/Fonts, ~/Library/Fonts, - and System/Library/Fonts. Just not a fan of a couple dozen fonts I'll never user cluttering up font menus in applications.
