I Don't want to use imessage on my ipad so I turned it off in settings. But when I try to send a regular message from my ipad it is asking me for my id to use imessage. How do I stop this from happening? I just want the old message system. Thanks. I have the ipad air.

The only other message system is SMS, which requires a cellular account. To use it on the iPad, it needs to be connected to an iPhone to be able to send an SMS. Without a phone linked to the iPad, there is no way to send an SMS, you could only send iMessages.
