Q: SMS forwarding in Messages.app not possible with 2 macs – why?

hi folks,

i got another problem with this Messages.app in El Capitan ...

The App says, that i could use SMS-forwarding with my iPhone.

BUT in my case it works only with ONE machine at a time !

I can do what I want, I don't get two macs in the display of my iPhone to allow them  the SMS-forwarding.

at the cost of VERY VERY much time i managed friday to move the SMS forwarding from my mac pro to my macbook pro (several reboots, deleting caches, puttin both machines in the same wifi, activaitng bluetooth ... were necessary till it worked).

but as i assumed: when i came back to my mac pro today: the SMS forwarding was gone from there.

i could reactivate it by switching the account in the Messages.app on the macpro on/off, but then the activation from the macbook was gone.

and when i have all 3 of them in the same wifi – i can switch between the mac, that gets the allowance to SMS-forwarding by deactivating and reactivating the account in Messages.apps of the two macs ...

but i only can see one machine at a time in the list in the settings on the iPhone.

does anyone know, what to do? thank you so much

    Hi,

I have this set up for an iMac (the only computer I have capable of running Messages) and an iPad.

Whilst the set up is "blue tooth like" in the fact the addition on a device on the iPhone triggers a Code Number alert on the device in question it does not actually require Blue Tooth.

I have heard of people setting up second Macs mostly at work (one network) and one at home (on another network)

The issue then is whether the iPhone will pass on the SMS  to the second device when on that network.

However you seem to be having problems setting two devices in the first place.

It is something I have only done once and I have not tried to reset it.

I am not sure I can help with this one.
