Q: it says it is downloading new email from the server but then nothing downloads and I know there is new messages

I know I have new email messages to download and it says it is downloading new messages then stops and nothing gets downloaded. I keep asking to check for new messages but nothing happens.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

You don't say what you tried.
For example, looking in the Junk mailbox.

sorry....I have two email accounts on my mail program. My iCloud account which is downloading messages. And my mail email which is thru my internet provider xplornet. It is the xplornet email that seems to have the issues as it will download mail, then it stops and looks like I have no new mail which I know I do as the same messages will download on my cellphone....but not on my macbook. I have tried taking it offline then back on, and I have asked for it to download new messages, but nothing comes thru. bottom left is says "mail activity" " Incoming messages with a blue bar that moves across and will say 17 of 18, or 45 of 46, or 106 of 107" but then nothing shows up. Nothing is in the junk box.

    pop3 or imap?
make sure your phone doesn't delete downloaded messages from the server.

    Try rebuilding the mailbox.

    Rebuild mailbox

If that doesn't work, try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages        For El Capitan, try looking in V3.
