Sep 6, 2016 3:20 AM in response to wickedwitch30by Rysz,★HelpfulYou need to go to HP support website and search for a driver for your particular printer, then download it from there.

Sep 6, 2016 3:26 AM in response to Ryszby wickedwitch30,Thanks for the response. I did go to HP's website. I could only find install drivers. Even called Apple Support and was instructed to uninstall original software. Emptied trash. Could not find software to download and install. There was a Adobe Flash video that told me to update to the last version. i checked and my iMac said I had the latest version. Now I am stumped.

Sep 6, 2016 4:26 AM in response to wickedwitch30by Barney-15E,Did you attempt to Re-Add the printer in System Prefs?
When you do, does it attempt to find the software and can't?

"Install drivers" or "driver installer"? That sounds to me exactly as what you need to download.

Sep 6, 2016 7:54 AM in response to wickedwitch30by Rysz,Let's try a few different things; check if it helped after each step.
A.
1. System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > right-click in the left window > select Reset Printing System.
2. Click on " + " sign; is your printer listed?
3. Download Apple HP driver package and install; repeat 1 and 2.

Sep 6, 2016 11:25 AM in response to wickedwitch30by dialabrain,Just a couple of things. I'm not sure what you are looking for in the Applications folder. That's not where drivers are stored. The other thing is, if you picked the printer from the add printer screen, that is the driver.
Are you looking for some HP application in the Applications folder?

Sep 6, 2016 12:05 PM in response to wickedwitch30by K Shaffer,Sometimes the older driver set is what will work, if or when there are
no newer ones available for near obsolete peripherals such as printer.
• HP Printers - OS X v10.11, v10.10 (lists) Compatible Printers:

Perhaps if you can locate & have not already tried v 4.2.2 print driver, it may do.
If there is a firmware update for AIO printer, that may be in another HP location.
{Although a similar yet different printer model suggests Air Print support...
About AirPrint - Apple Support ... model # is not the exact one you have.
Bonjour printing, if printer has built-in wi-fi support, it sometimes can work
w/o additional drivers. Resolve printer issues on your Mac - Apple Support }
Among details in the HP Product Software & Driver Downloads for HP Printers,
is this info (where no driver for OS X 10.11 is available, for your AIO printer) --
Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system.
"In addition to the options listed in this support document, you can visit the HP Support Forum
to ask the support community - about the software or driver you are looking for."
https://www.google.com/search?q=hp+officejet+6500a+plus+driver+download+for+mac
Given these printers are somewhat disposable, one of the issues to face when
adopting a newer operating system, is supported hardware driver updates. Old
stock or older models that are not seeing print driver upgrade for OS X, may not
ever get an exacting driver. Details on more recent manufacturer specifications
can sometimes tell you if a specific product is 'supported in OS X 10.10 & Later'
and any date reference with the product packaging may be helpful to confirm
a time-line, that may also indicate possibilities their item may actually work.
One of the problem areas of upgrading systems is drivers for peripherals; or lack of.
To have the printer attached by USB and recognized by the computer before you
go online to look for a driver, helps the OS X locate one. On the other hand, Bonjour
may see your printer listed; but that may require a manual effort each time you print.
Hopefully you can get the HP to function as best it can; if you have a second older
Mac running earlier OS X, you could use 'Save as PDF' - & print that in older OS X.
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!
