Q: garageband > application not working

So I was working on a project in garageband, saved it and then went on to do other things.

Today I tried to work on it again and to my frustration garageband wouldn't open anymore.

It doesn't do anything:

- when clicking on the icon it starts jumping and than after literally one second the 'spinning' wheel appears.

- when trying to close the program it doesn't work either > force quit works after 6 to 7 times

- I've tried restarting the imac numerous times

- I was so frustrated that I paid for another download, reinstalled it, and that version doesn't work EITHER...

I must say this is getting pretty frustrating, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Currently working with yosemite, with more than 800GB of free space and 16GB ram. Imac is from 2014.

    Hello kevinfromhoeselt,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand from your post that you are no longer able to open GarageBand. I recommend restarting your Mac into Safe Mode and testing the issue then restart the Mac as normal and test it again.

    Safe Mode

    What is safe mode?

Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening.

Here are the steps to restart your Mac into Safe Mode:

    Starting up in safe mode

Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.
    Start or restart your Mac.
Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

    Best Regards
