I want to use an external display via HDMI from my MacBookPro. But I want to close my laptop and whenever I do the whole laptop goes to sleep and the external display goes black. What do I do to make the laptop stay on when I close it up?>

Connect a USB keyboard.
I have an usb keyboard. on my PC, if I hook up an external display I can change my settings to NOT turn the display off if I close my laptop. But I can't find that setting on my MAC. It works IF i'm plugged into a power source but I was told that it's not good to always have your laptop plugged into a power source; that you should use the battery.
No setting is needed on the Mac. If you connect a USB keyboard then it will not sleep if you close the lid and have an external display connected.
Thank you very much for your patience. I was trying to NOT have it plugged into a "power source" and it just won't work that way.
