Q: Moving final cut pro files to another hard drive

I have kind of a mess.  I installed a new larger external hard drive and want to move all of my FCP pro files to it.  I also want to delete unnecessary files to free space.  I bought a cool program Final Cut Library Manager and was easily able to move all of my libraries to the new drive.  I organized my new drive into folders, ie. Final cut 2014, Final Cut 2015, Final Cut 2106 do I have my libraries out into years that I made them.  I have the libraries moved but I still have all of these other files on the old hard drive and I am not sure what to do.   I have a folder named "Final Cut Library" and it is 500gb in size.  Within it are folders named Final Cut Optimized Media, Final Cut Original Media, and Final Cur Proxy Media.  Can I just delete all of them within finder?

I also have a bunch of other folders that appear to be library names with EDT.fcpbundle names.  Do I need these files?  Can I just delete or move within finder?

Thanks for any help.

" Within it are folders named Final Cut Optimized Media, Final Cut Original Media, and Final Cur Proxy Media.  Can I just delete all of them within finder?"

Those files are within the FCP X bundle. Did you open the package Contents?

At any rate yo can delete from the Finder, please make sure that all is working well on the new external before you empty the Trash.

    "with EDT.fcpbundle names"

These will be back up files that are very small, probably in your Home>Movies folder.

You can trash them if you like.

This probably means you have at some point set the location for media in some library (or libraries) to this folder (i.e. store the media outside the library, which we usually refer to as "external media").

There should be no problem deleting the Optimized and Proxy media folders, but, as the name implies, "Original Media" is... original media.

You should figure out to which library this media belongs, and not delete that unless you are sure you don't need it.

It's relatively easy to delete the proxy and optimized files within the program "Final Cut Library Manager".  I haven't done so in quite a while, but if I recall it's relatively intuitive.  Good luck.
