Q: When I see charges on my credit card how can I tell what I am being charged for?

You can look at iTunes purchases by signing into the Apple ID that made the purchase in iTunes, then click on Account>View My Account, type in the Apple ID password, then when the Account info screen displays, go to Purchase History and click on "See All".

You would manage subscriptions on that screen as well:
