Black screen on external display (HDMI, USB c HUB, MacBook 12' 2016)

When I plug my external display via USB C hub HDMI, the screen on that display is black, however macbook detects the display, knows the name of the display and looks like everything is fine. This happens with my 1 year old DELL display and with my 1 year old Samsung Smart TV. Do you know what to do? Thx.

MacBook, iOS 9.3.5

Could be a bad adopter. You can try:

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX

- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.

Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX
