Q: Since installing iOS 9.3.5, callers can't hear me when I'm using Bluetooth headset

Since the introduction of iOS 9.3.5, callers have been unable to hear me clearly when I speak through a Bluetooth headset. They describe my voice as being "quiet and distant".  A friend is also experiencing the same problem.  Between us we have tried 3 different handsets (2 x iPhone 5S, 1 x iPhone 6+) and 4 different Bluetooth headsets, 2 different carriers (Three and O2) and well as different SIM cards for the same carrier. Also, the problem occurs in any location eliminating the possibility of a faulty cell tower, and occurs even if the other party is or isn't using an iPhone. I've tried all combinations of settings including turning hearing aid, mono and noise cancellation on and off and all permutations thereof. I've done a soft reset, reset network settings and even erased all content and setup as a new iPhone - the fault occurs before any further apps are reinstalled.  We're this just on one handset I'd assume it was the handset, but it's happening on 3 to my knowledge, and only since iOS 9.3.5 was installed on each.  It seems that when there's no background noise whatsoever people can hear me and my friend, so I'm guessing that the noise cancellation feature is activating all the time whether switched on or not, and is muting not just the ambient noise but voices too.
