Q: Copying iPhoto/iTunes to External Drive for Upgrade

I would like to transfer my iPhoto (5.0.4) and iTunes (9.2.1) files from my old G5 iMac (running 10.4.11) to my new iMac (running El Capitan).

My iTunes library is now on an external drive (and iTunes is directed there), and I would also like to copy my iPhoto files onto the same drive - with the aim of moving both onto the new iMac whilst retaining folder structures etc.

Can anyone tell me what the best way to do this is? I'm not clear what iPhoto files or folders I need to move or copy onto the external drive to retain the current organisation/folder structure etc. nor the process to then get them into the right place on the new machine.

Just drag and drop them to the location you want the libraries to reside. Because iPhoto is not longer included you will be using the Photos app. You can learn how to move the iPhotos library to Photos for Mac in http://osxdaily.com/2015/04/17/move-iphoto-library-to-photos-mac/.

As far as your iTunes library, again just drag and drop. To "teach" iTunes where the library is simply double click the library and iTunes will find it and then "know" where the library is located.
