You can only get videos into the Videos app by downloading them directly on the iPad via the iTunes Store app (redownloading a past iTunes store purchase requires it to remain in the store and you not to move countries after being it), or syncing them from your computer's iTunes library - you can't, for example, use the camera connection kit to copy them to the Videos app (the kit only works with the Photos app and store purchases won't play there) or stream them from a wifi-enabled drive.

Video media in iTunes can be categorized as "home video" in the get info for that title under the Media Kind of the Options tab, however a copyrighted movie may not be copied to mp4 depending on the laws of a specific country. You may import "home movies" to the device for iTunes video media that was not purchased through Apple or linked to an Apple ID through another service.

Can the movies from iTunes be stored on a portable storage device hard drive for future use in which to create free space for further movies, save downloading all the time ? and as I only have a wi fi apple ipad while out doors I cannot download from iTunes.

Storage device similar to this one which is 64gb

I was on Live Chat with Apple earlier and asked

1: If the movies (Purchased) not rent from I tunes can be stored on an ex hard drive or flash drive ?

Answer Was YES !

2: Can the movies be played from the storage Device ?

Answer was Yes ! maybe he misunderstood ?

As I was curious once downloaded onto the e.g Flash Drive as I only have wi fi and no cellular data while out

I cannot re download movies !

so will it play from the storage Device ?

Once stored on the storage device can it be played on Apple TV also ?

Answer: Not 100% sure as there is no USB socket !

But surely Apple TV has the lightning socket to plug it into.

He was not 100% sure and stated it is a Good idea and he shall look into it for his own personal use !

Hi many Thanks for all your replies !

I forward these questions to Apple agent and obviously misunderstood my question.

I was hoping once stored on a storage device it would work like plugging it into a PC once it appears you could play it.

I was also hoping that if I bought Apple TV I could just plug it into the Apple TV Device and play it.

So Deep down we can only store our movies on a portable storage device for future use save time and effort downloading.

Although that device does plug into your lightning port, you still need the app installed on your phone to read anything off of it.

I would also note that, after reading the first couple of review on Amazon, I'd be very skeptical. Many of the reviews note that they received a discount on the price of the device for their "unbiased" review. Look around further on Amazon for products that don't need to bribe people to get good reviews.

I was just considering if the movie was on the storage device and you still had iTunes app installed on the iPad, Iphone whatever will iTunes be able to read the data on the storage ?

I bought several and one from Amazon but Amazon is misleading !

You can only stream the data whether purchased or rented !

But if you become a Prime Member which you have to pay monthly subscriptions they advertise you can Download !

NO YOU CANNOT !

You have to install Amazon Video App on your device to watch but cannot find the amazon data in which to organize and store in you library, hoping it could be backed up to storage device.

On Live Chat with Amazon earlier for approx. 1 hour talking with 3 different agents, why advertise if you are a prime member you can download when there is no way you can ?

I have downloaded on iTunes some movies and TV Shows and all the purchased data is installed !

Duplicates of same movie came down !

Duplicates of episodes came down !

Many Episodes were missing and had to download them again !

So once they are downloaded it is "Good" that iTunes allow us to store on a portable device and just have to drag the folder over rather than go through all the downloading and organizing again.

But I did explain to Amazon misleading their advertising and not allowing the download to backup for future use like iTunes you will eventually loose custom, for one I will not buy from them again !

Yes, you can. I did this when I went on vacation to someplace I didn't have data access. You can download the video into the Amazon Video app and watch it without a data connection. It works quite well.

It is installed onto your ipad, but you cannot "Download' to your PC !

iTunes if you Rent it is installed onto your iPad !

iTunes if you Buy you also have the opportunity to use the link in which to download the data to your PC in which to store on an Ex hard Drive for future replacement or install on another Device of yours which has iTunes.

Amazon if you buy it is only installed on your iPad, no download to your PC options are available.

They are different products from different companies. Both work exactly as advertised. If you prefer the way one works to the other, that's fine. However, to claim that Amazon is misleading you because their offering works the way it says it's supposed to is a little silly.
