Q: security update 2016-001 hangs

Hello,

This morning I tried to install the security update 2016-001 el capitan. The install has hung. It has been on "about a minute" for nearly two hours now.

The machine is a mid-2011 27" iMac

If I hard boot it, what will be screwed up? Can I get back to a working state?

I had the same problem. I rebooted and it was a normal start. I went to the  menu with the option/alt key held down and ran System Information. The update had not installed. I downloaded it from the link below and successfully installed it.
