Q: iphone screen not responding

I have tried all the recommended steps on getting my iPhone 6s plus screen to respond, but it still is not working. I'm unable to enter my pass code; therefore, I'm not able to get in and adjust my settings. Apple doesn't have an available appt until Thursday evening and I have a sick kid at home. I'm not in the position to wait as a walk in. Any suggestions? TIA!

Hold down the home and power button for 10 seconds until it restarts. If that does not work you will need to do a backup and restore.

I tried, but iTunes says my screen needs to be unlocked before it can do a backup and restore. :/
