Sep 14, 2016 8:40 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby Oceans49,Have erased iPod in Disk Utility, followed by restoring the iPod in iTunes, however after sometime a message appeared - Unknown error occurred 1429
Looked this error up on Apple Support, i am sure generally the fix suggested has been tried.
I have followed the procedure given in your recent reply.
My new USB cable arrived today, but has you predicted it does not appear to have changed anything.
When it is possible to transfer a song, everything looks OK, the song is shown in iTunes as being on the iPod, but after ejecting and disconnecting there is no music or anything on the iPod
I think the iPod is probably corrupted to a degree beyond repair.
Kind Regards

Sep 14, 2016 12:17 PM in response to Oceans49by Kenichi Watanabe,The cause is probably the hard drive being faulty. If you want to continue using iPod, (instead of replacing it with another hard drive) you can consider using commonly available flash-based storage, in the form of compact flash card or SD card (on an adapter). For 5th gen and later "classic" iPods, this web site has relevant information.
