Q: Why is my Mail app sucking my battering since the latest security update?

My Mail app has been running overtime since the new security installation.  Is this a temporary result of new indexing, or are there settings I need to change?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

In Mail Preferences : General, see that you are checking for new mail every 15 minutes, or a longer interval. If you are not using Bluetooth, turn it off. My 2014 MacBook Air with the 2016-001 patch applied does not exhibit your reported issue, or any of the countless other reports (the update ate my neighbor's cat...) about the update.
