Q: I wish to delete 1 of 2 iCloud accounts

My daughter just got a replacement for her old macbook, on which we had set up her btinternet account for the Mail app.  With the new machine, she wishes to make use of the free email address for iCloud as BT now wish to charge her for having a btinternet account.

At first we were unable to configure Mail to receive the mail from the new iCloud account since the login email was different.

She wishes to delete or deactivate her btinternet email address from the iCloud login screen, and keep the new iCloud email as her login address.

Can someone, please let me know how to go about this, as she still wishes to receive mail from the BT account until it is de-activated by BT?

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Currently using Yosemite, unhappily

If she doesn't wish to import the BT account into her mail account, why not forward the mail from BT to the iCloud email?

She'll need to go to http://appleid.apple.com and replace the bitinternet email address with a different one in her Apple ID.

She can get a free hotmail or gmail account to use there.

For security purposes you cannot have an icloud only email for the Apple ID.

You can however use the iCloud email to login to all Apple services.  If you don't wish to use the other one.

Thanks for your response, zinacef, but as BT will de-activate her account in the near future, this will not be possible.

The other issue is that when I set up her iCloud email account in Mail, I sent a test message to my email address...it has still not arrived, and I can't figure out why!

Is the test message showing in the Sent folder?

An option would be to import the BT account into the Mail account (temporarily), then copy all of the messages over into the iCloud account.

After remove the BT account (Mail > Accounts > Remove all).  After, just start using the iCloud email account and informing folks that this is the new email account.

Try going to the Sent folder, then Mailbox and hit Rebuild.

Thanks Phil0125.  Can't really do as you suggested as there are 2 login email address and going into either account will not delete the other!

What're the two login email addresses?  I'm assuming BT and iCloud?

If she doesn't wish to have anything to do with BT in future, then you can/should delete that account.  Go to System Preferences > Accounts > Click account to be deleted, i.e. BT > Click on minus sign.

I never said it would delete the account.  I said you would need to change the associated e-mail address for it.

Are you saying there are 2 separate Apple ID's?  One using the BT account and the second one using the iCloud e-mail?

In other words, is the iCloud E-mail address not part of the same Apple ID as the one with the bitinterent e-mail address? This is important to identify.

When signing in to http://appleid.apple.com both e-mail addressed should apear in the Account section under Reachable at, If they don't, that means you have 2 separare independent Apple IDs.  And what happens on one does not affect the other.

If you do have 2 fully functional Apple ID's you can use to sign in to the App Store and iCloud with and have different content and separated content on each then you still need to edit the bitInterent Apple ID to have a different E-Mail, address.

But this has nothing to do with the iCloud account then as they are separate entities.

Note that content purchased with one Apple ID will remain tied to it forever, and in the case of Apps will continue to request that ID and password to update.

If she has any purchased apps, or media that belong to the account with the bitinterent  e-mail you still need to change the associated e-mail address in http://appleid.apple.com if you wish to maintain access to that content.

There is no way to merge accounts or their content.

To get rid if the bitinternet E-mail you need to edit the Apple ID Account that has it.
