Fixing file and folder names

I've several GBs files and folders that I want to transfer from my iMac to my NAS. The problem is that some of them have invalid names, containing ":", "-", ";" etc. Those files and folders cancel the transfer.

So I'm looking and application (free if possible) in order to find all these problematic files and folders in order to fix them.

There are a few file rename files that may do OK, some

have been around for awhile; so hopefully will still work.

• Three Easy Ways to Batch Re-name Files on the Mac:

{Suggested software is still available, and another item is

figuring out of Automator can be set up easily, to use it.

Note some ideas that may be helpful, in Tuts' comments.}

There are some articles that discuss a means to sync files

across platforms, and do some kinds of changes to them;

but I did not see (from some moments of search results) a

more recent article with details that seemed automatic.

Batch file rename, including Automator is discussed here:

Batch file rename | Official Apple Support Communities

The command-line & other older methods are mentioned in

equally older topic results. Nothing exacting that concerns

changing names specific to sync or share between OS X &

NAS file systems; some say only: Linux, Windows, OS X.

• Free Backup & File Synchronization Software:

Perhaps the batch file name via Automator, with suggested

scripting ideas, in the Apple Discussions thread above may

be something to read & consider; if not, a foray w/ free app.

PS: just found this item that may - or may not - be of interest:

{for El Capitian, see Paragon link; also note Tuxera software)

Good luck in this matter! 🙂
