Q: preview annotation

I am having a lot of trouble with the annotation in preview since I movre to El Capitan. Several questions:

(1) Is it possible to make it back-compatible with earlier versions, so that I can read my old annotated preview files?

(2) How do I get rid of the borders around annotations?

(3) How can I rotate the annotations by 90 degrees?

(4) How can I get the annotations that used to be in the margins back in the margins, so that I can read both them and the text? I think this is usually the result of the new preview program rotating the old annotations by 90 degrees.

If this post ends up in some random category, how do I put it in a sensible category?
