Q: When I select "Sleep" from the Apple menu my Mac sleeps only for approx. 8 seconds and immediately "wakes up". Why?

When I select "Sleep" from the Apple menu my Mac sleeps only for approx. 8 seconds and immediately "wakes up". Why doesn't it stay asleep?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

    Usually a third party USB or network device needs your attention.  Also the Notification Manager may be set to alert you to something, if you are running Mac OS X 10.8 or later.  Note your signature does not match the operating system of this forum.   So I can't say what you are running.
