Q: Turning off TV with Siri Remote

Hey all,

So I have the fourth generation Apple TV. Now, up until this past weekend, I had used this Apple TV with a 2007-era TV (a Sharp LC-26SB14U) and the sleep feature worked great - I'd sleep my Apple TV with the Siri Remote and my TV would turn off. When I powered the Apple TV back on with the remote, my TV would turn back on.

Now, this past weekend, I bought a new TV (a Samsung UN40H500) but I quickly realized that the Siri Remote didn't power off my TV. I did some digging around and learned that this particular TV didn't have HDMI-CEC and I thought maybe that had something to do with that. So I returned it, and got a Samsung UN40J5200A (a smart TV) that supports HDMI-CEC. When I got home - same thing. The remote didn't turn off the TV. And when I tried to connect with AnyNet+, it wouldn't connect.

So, I know it's trivial, but if I'm getting a new TV, I'd prefer to get one that would turn off the TV with the Siri Remote. So, given all of that, I'm looking to you all to see if anyone knows the answer to either of these questions:

  1. Why would this power on/off function work with a 2007-era TV and much newer one?
  2. What TVs/brands are you guys using with the fourth generation Apple TV that allows you to power off/on the TV? One that works with HDMI-CEC is a plus, too!

Apple TV, iOS 9.3.5, null
