I have a new 4th Gen Apple TV and a Sony TV Barvia model KDL-46V5100 | This model is also known as: KDL46V5100
I have rebooted, updated, restarted, unplugged, purchased a better quality HDMI and still black and white with a direct cable to the TV with Apple TV.
I then ran it through the DVR and it made the home screen of my DVD player by Sony turn black and white too on my Sony TV. I had to reboot everything twice to make to go back to color after I unplugged the Apple TV from the DVD player.
30 minutes later after talking to Bob, who was very kind from Apple (with an Australian accent), he talked to senior tech. We tried it on another TV and it was in color. The only thing they said was it won't work with that old of a Sony TV.
Many hours wasted at the Store, going back to get the HDMI, reseting all the video and audio on my devices and then time waiting for Apple then on the phone was a bust. I wanted people to know this is a problem since the last post even close to this was years ago. They had no idea why it would happen. I hope you do not waste your time trying to use a Sony TV that is about 5 years old to work with Apple TV. It won't work. Do not waste you time or money!
