Q: NAS HD for Photo Storage
First off, my apologies if I have missed something, I hate to re-ask the same question.
So I am quickly running out of storage on my Macbook and bought a Synology diskstation NAS setup to put things like photos, Itunes media, etc... on - my Mac stores pretty much only photos, music and video, so that's all I need to store. My initial research indicated this could work, but the thing that I didn't realize, and didn't take into account was the local journaling that photos in particular uses (and it looks to me like Itunes does it to, but can't confirm). With the local journaling, I don't actually save any space (maybe 10 GB) so I am looking for another workaround. Is there any way to store photos and itunes media remotely without the local journaling?
I've been working at this for quite a while, and it's been so demoralizing that I am really close to switching to PC because this is a Mac specific problem. I know apple wants to push you to the Icloud storage, but I'm not interested in locking myself into a lifelong payment program for my storage so I would prefer to manage that myself.
Again, hope I'm missing something really simple!
