I have the same issue here with a 'brand new' iPhone 5s 64gb unlocked GSM replacement through apple care. I got the phone replaced a year ago but never used it again because I bought the iphone 6S. I finally turned it back on several weeks ago so my dad could use it but then it just stopped working and kept 'searching for network..' as of last week. So I decided to go to Apple today to see if they could resolve the issue but they immediately told me my 'sim card reader' wasn't working anymore and that I would have to pay out of warranty fees to fix the issue. I told them I wouldn't pay it and that it was practically a brand new phone so they attempted to restart and update the phone but had zero success. They tried to update the iOS multiple times wirelessly as well as physically with three different MacBooks and several different cords but eventually just ended up bricking my phone. After discussing the issue with several other

'geniuses' they just handed my phone back to me after I kindly told them to get bent because they wanted me to pay the $269 to fix it. When I got home, I decided to call Apple support, but they too, had me update the phone with both my MacBook and a windows computer. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, the senior advisor told me to schedule an appointment with the genius bar and pay the out of warranty fee to get the issue fixed. I didn't realize until after I hung up on Apple that there are actually quite a few people who are recently having the same issues. I'm still waiting to hear back from the senior advisor tomorrow but I'll be sure to mention to her how there are many others whom are having the same issue.

I am also experiencing this issue on my iPhone 6, running iOS 10.0.1. I have already swapped the SIM card, wiped and reset the entire device, reset my network settings.

Currently, Apple support is sending me to a 'Apple Care technician' to have the HW looked at.

This problem started happening in the morning of Sept. 20th, 2016. I have had two occasions where resetting my 'Network Settings', put my device back on the AT&T network for 5 minutes, then the problem started occurred again, and my phone started 'Searching ...' again, and hasn't stopped.

I suspect this is an iOS 10.0.1 update issue.
