Q: Finder display error

Hi Community,

we troubleshoot an odd display error on an OSX 10.10.5 Mac Mini. Sometimes, when the user drang & drop a file from one folder to another, the focus for the target folder isn't where the mouse cursor is, but somewhere in the sidebar. If the User will drop the file in that position, the file isn't stored where the cursor is, but in the folder which is highlited in the sidebar:

A second phenomenon in this issue is when the user will rename a file. When the filename is in the editor mode the textpart will sliding anywhere to the desktop and the icon remain in the postition where the file is stored:

The user restart his Mac to troubleshoot the issue and after that it works for a while. A restart of the Finder (killall Finder) doesn't fix the problem.

Does anyone have a clue what causes the problem?

Thx & Bye Tom

    Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.
