I've had the Apple charging case for my iPhone 6 for a few months now and just yesterday, I decided to go the day without it.
Before going to bed, I plugged it into my bedside charger and got the usual vmmm vmmm letting me know it was juicing up.
I woke up this morning and picked it up to see that it was 100% charged and went down to my kitchen to get my day started. I them put the iPhone into the Apple charging case and didn't get the familiar signs of recognition but didn't think much of it at the time.
Then when I got into my car to head down to the office, I noticed that the iPhone was already at 70% so I plugged it into my car charger...nothing. I then took it out of the Apple case and tried directly charging it...nothing.
I was a little worried but got into the office and carried on with my day.
When I noticed it was at 20% in the early afternoon, I tried a multitude of charging methods all to no avail. So I decided to head to the Apple Store.
After about a hour of waiting, I finally got a Genius to look into the situation. He inspected the charging port and removed a few dust bunnies but still nothing. After plugging it into an iPad and running some sort of test (the iPad recognized it but didn't charge it?), he told me that the phone was dying and I would have to replace it then and there. I could either trade it in for $299 or buy a fresh one for $699. While sitting there trying to decide what to do, the phone died. I was no longer connected to the world.
I resisted the sense of urgency that the situation presented to me and left without doing anything. I knew there was a better (cheaper) solution.
After I got into my car and traveled about two blocks, my smart watch gave me a ghostly alert that it had found my iPhone!
I grabbed the iPhone out of my briefcase and all of a sudden the Apple case was charging it back to life!
It was a miracle!!!
But...
Now I'm very concerned.
It's now fully charged but that situation left my with an uneasy feeling about the integrity of my communication lifeline.
Why would an iPhone sporadically stop accepting a charge?
