Q: Pages no longer separate app?

Since I am having so many issues with El Capitan (same one with everything after Mountain Lion-10.8) along with the inability to locate any updates to Pages 09, including as part of iWork, just wondering if it is ignamoniously directly tied into the 10.11.n so that it will only upgrade through that OS?

Pages '09/iWork '09 was last updated to v4.3 which still works.

Apple replaced it with Pages 5, 3 years ago, which is currently v 5.6.2 and which only runs on El Capitan.

The last chance to get any updates for Pages '09 — that was individually purchased from the OS X App Store, was when you were on Mountain Lion (10.8.5). If your Pages '09 was installed from the Apple iWork '09 DVD, then a last update (Dec. 2012) is available as the Apple iWork 9.3 updater, and puts you at Pages '09 v4.3.

The individual iWork '09 applications were discontinued, and dropped from the OS X App Store when Mavericks (10.9) was released in Oct 2013.

Never use the Apple iWork 9.3 updater with any iWork '09 applications that were individually purchased from the OS X App Store. Failing to heed this message will make your OS X App Store sourced iWork '09 applications useless.

The current Pages, Numbers, and Keynote in the OS X App Store require OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 or El Capitan for installation. Apple will likely change these requirements as future releases of these products, and macOS become available.

Gave you helpful even though it does me absolutely no good, am already at 9.4.3 (pages) and 7 on Numbers. It is probably a very high probability that the problems that is plagueing me now are the result of that DOWNGRADE and I just never noticed, or didn't use, the feature. Basically, it is after I download, actually copy/paste, from the internet a columnar image, change it to columnar text there is a anomoly that if there is an EOL in a cell it plugs in a CR which I used to be able to drag/select to delete using copy/past technique universally delete that CR and the normal image that is with it. The update no longer picks up the image so it can be universally deleted.
    Tks any

A return (paragraph break) in Pages '09 v4.3 is a carriage return character. In any release of Pages v5, that return character is a newline. This change has impacted copy/paste expectations when using Pages v5.

This actually goes back to the old teletypes which were converted into ASCII code at the beginning of the Computer age. On the TTY there was both a return and line feed which was combined into the original ASCII code as a single CR character (CR/LF). When computers reached a certain point that Word Processing app wanted the old style carriage return added back in with a line feed they called it an End Of Line character and changed the previous to the End of Paragraph mark (double tailed P). The EOL is used to keep paragraphs together in WP but if used in Spreadsheet within a cell WILL NOT ADD THE PARAGRAPH mark in when the cell is used to hold. My only problem is remembering what keyboard combokeys is used in which one as they are different between the two apps.

BTW: I use that handle, Sparkgapper, which originally indicated a Radio Operator in the Spark Gap days of radio telegraphy, i.e. before 1930, but it was given to me on the first ship I was on (1960) when someone saw me reading a WW I novel about a German on board a sub who lured many allied warships into their area with fake distress (SOS) calls.

    Just info only
