Q: adding new episode to RSS

Hi

I set up an RSS feed for a podcast series and the first episode uploaded to the store. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/child-in-mind/id1122056877?mt=2

I am now trying to add the next episode to the RSS feed, including the info about the new episode below the previous episode and between new

tags.

This is the RSS: http://www.annafreud.org/podcast/xml/podcast-itunes.xml I have had to take out the new episode as it says there is an error in line 29, but this relates to the previous episode and I am not sure why it's saying this?

If I replace the previous episode with the new one then it works fine, so I think it must be something to do with having two in the same RSS. But I can't see why it would be an issue?

Does anyone have any advice?

You can have as many episodes in your feed as you like (though the iTunes Store won't display more than 301). You just add the new episode to the feed and republish it, and that's all you need to do - you don't have to submit it again.

Since you've removed the previous episode I obviously can't comment on the error message you got - where was this, in Podcasts Connect? - you don't need to check it there once it's been accepted in the first place.

When you add a new episode it's a good idea to subscribe to the feed in iTunes to check it's OK, since the Store usually takes 1-2 days to update. Everything seems OK at the moment, but if you have any further problems do post back.

    Hi Roger

Can you advise how to add the new episode to the RSS feed? I am using dreamweaver to do it. Is it just a case of adding the new item content between

tags and beneath the previous episode but above the
and
tags?

The error message came up when I pasted the rss link into the google bar (not in podcast connect).

I will try adding the new item info into the RSS again tomorrrow and can send a screenshot if that is helpful?

    Thanks

Basically, if you are dealing directly with the XML, that's how you do it. Post here to announce when you've added a new episode, but don't bother with a screen shot - they don't tell us anything useful. As you've already posted the Store and feed URLs that will do it.

Looking at the coding for your feed, a few points (none of which seem to be causing any trouble):

Within your 'enclosure' tag the 'type' attribute is given as "audio/mp3", it should be 'audio/mpeg"; and (though this doesn't really matter to iTunes) the 'length' should be the file size in bytes, so 9503592 (no commas).

You have a 'link' tag within the 'item' tags, this should be in the top section of the feed and should contain the URL of your associated web page, not your media file (though this isn't actually doing any harm, it's just incorrect).

Your 'itunes:duration' tag for the episode is 1357 which is interpreted as that number of seconds, which does give the correct duration, however it might be better to give 22:38.
