Keynote doesn't apply master to sub bullet all the time

Keynote 6.6.1 on Mac OS X 10.11.3

I have a presentation that has bullets and I'm using master slides. I have my top level bullet in a bold font with a round bullet, the sub bullet is with a dash and is a light font.

If I press the + sign to add a new slide and select that master, when I press tab on a bullet to turn it into a sub bullet, the master is applied correctly.

If I duplicate that slide and then paste in new text using the Paste and Match Style, then select a bullet and press tab to make it a sub bullet, the dash is applied but the light font is not. It's still bold.

I'm having issues like this where Keynote just decides to ignore the master formatting of bullets and I've had this issue for almost 2 years now on multiple Macs.

Any know about this issue? Thanks!
