Q: google talk and iMessage won't work

I recently was locked out of my original hotmail account that I used to set up my apple id, I changed everything over to gmail and since then have not been able to get iMessage on my mac. I was able to change my apple id over to my gmail address but iMessage still isn't working properly. I removed the old email address from my mac and iPhone, not sure what else to do.

    Hi,

Is the new Apple ID working in other Apple Apps ?

I would quit the App on the iPhone and then after a few minutes wait restart the app so that the Number has to Verify again.

On the Mac I would remove (Drag to Trash) the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist and the com.apple.imessages.bag.plist items.

    These are in ~/Library/Preferences

Open a Finder window. Use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key

Select the Library that now appears in the list.

    Navigate to Preferences.

These two .plists hold the Apple ID  and alternatives for  iMessages and then the Server you were last connected to.

Also in Applications/Utilities open the Keychain Access app.

With Login selected top left and Passwords lower left find the IDS: yourOldAppleID-Auth Token and delete that as well.

This should remove all traces of the old Apple ID and the link to the iPhone number.
