El Capitan Update frozen

I'm running 10.10.5 on a Late 2009 MacBook using Opera 39.0 web browser, 4GB ram, 32GB disk free space.

I started downloading El Capitan on Sept 3rd, 4 days ago. It was going to be about a 2.5hr download. I turned off sleep, screen save etc. But I missed the Advanced Security setting that causes logout after 60minuted of no activity. I think this was set in a recent security update because I didn't have this problem a few months ago uploading to YouTube.

I tried to resume from the App Store Updates page. The button changed to unelectable Pause with "Waiting..." printed to the left. Then nothing.

If I power on or restart I can get the Resume button again but the same thing happens. I've tried from the App Store Purchases page and approaching from Apple's El Capitan website.

I suspect a couple flags are set at cross purposes but I'm just a user not a coder on this platform.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

MacBook
