I want to use apache2 as localhost

iMac ELCapitan

How can I make use of the apache2 as local host? I have got as far as: sudo nano /etc/apache2/httpd.conf in the terminal.app, but then I got lost. I have got a web site in html/css where I want to integrate some php-scripts.

I am a beginner at this and would appreciate an explanation for "dummies" if that is possible. Thanks a lot!

BobTheFisherman: thank you very much so far: but how do I uncomment the lines in the httpd.conf file? The #-sign just doesn't want to go away?
