iPhone cannot be restored, error 3194

I'm trying to restore an iPhone 5 (A1429 16GB) with iOS 9.3.1 (downloaded IPSW file, my internet is too slow to download iOS through iTunes) after it failed to update over WiFi to 9.3.1, and it keeps giving me the Error 3194 right after iTunes finishes extracing the file.

I have tried the following:

1) DFU mode

2) Resetting the host file

3) Used 3 different machines (all running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit, with up to date iTunes. One laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 AMD, the other laptop and desktop are both Intel systems.)

4) Tried an iOS 9.2.1 IPSW file but it gave the same error

It keeps throwing back the same error and if I just leave the phone afterwards it reboots but doesn't get further than the apple logo and sits there until the battery runs out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe there is a builtin "timeout" feature when downloading updates via iTunes.

If the download has not completed in 15 minutes, it will time out to ensure data integrity.

What you may be seeing when trying with IPSW files, is some other form of client<>server handshake required for the update that is not happening.

Faster internet is likely your solution.
