Q: Time Machine wants to do a backup right when I start up my iMac

Whenever I startup my iMac, Time Machine insists on doing a backup right away.  It drives me nuts.

I want to give the computer a few minutes to start up the system software and then to start up my regular programs before it wastes resources preparing a TM backup.

Is there a way to tell TM to wait maybe 30 mins or an hour before it does a backup?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2011

The real answer is to leave your iMac powered and on, just let it sleep. This way all activities, such as app updates, syncing and backups can occurs at night, or when you're not otherwise using it.

You can also cancel a backup from the menu bar icon.
