Can't setup text forwarding to bluetooth compatible auto

My new Lexus RX350 offers text messaging via Bluetooth. My iPhone 6 paired/registered successfully with the auto and I can make/receive phone calls and play music; however, I cannot get text forwarding to activate as it does not "see" the car as a location to which forwarded texts can be sent. I've tried unpairing and restarting then trying to re-register the phone but the same thing keeps happening. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
