The bluetooth mouse continuously disconnects. Batteries are new. Both Duracell and EverReady. This must be a solvable problem - it certainly has been documented as a common problem, however I am unable to find a solution.

"Common problem?" Not that I have seen.
In any event, try resetting the NVRAM and SMC. If that does not help, the mouse probably needs to be replaced.
