Q: New macbook Pro iCloud sign-in problem

Greetings,

I just purchased a brand new MacBook Pro and can not log into iCloud using the iCloud icon in System Preferences. I keep getting an error about can not verify. I have tried another persons account and get the same error. I can sign in if I use Safari so I know my ID and PWD are correct. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I tried all the things mentioned. I also just tried to use my new MacBook to sign in to my wife's iCloud account using her information and I got the same error. I can sign into iCloud using the web so I know my credentials are correct. This now makes two separate iCloud accounts with the same error message on this new mac so my guess it has something to do with this machine. I have a call into mac support about this issue and will post the results. Stay tuned.

    Here is what I get when I try to log on using the iCloud icon in system preferences: "Verification Failed This action could not be completed. Try again."

    Go to: Apple - My Apple ID and sign in with your Apple ID and password, and make sure that your Apple ID has been verified. If you have the option, ask it to send the verification email again so you can respond to that. You can also try resetting your password. Be sure that it is not a simplistic one, because if it currently is, that could be the issue. Apple is requiring more complex passwords, so that could be the problem. Be sure to include both lower and upper-case letters as well as numbers and special characters.

    Do you have any firewall software of antivirus software activated, that could be blocking the access to Apple's servers?  If your appleID is working at www.icloud.com, but not on the Mac, that could be a problem. asa test, try to purchase any free application from the Mac App Store. Does your iCloud AppleID work at the Mac App Store?

    Greetings,

    Thank you to everyone who replied to my issue. After trying several things with the Apple customer service person he said to reinstall El Capitan which I just did. Once the re-install was completed that solved the issue of not being able to sign in using the iCloud icon located in the System Preferences window. My guess is that the file was not installed correctly when the new Macbook Pro was loaded with software. This is the first time I ever had an issue with a Mac, especially a brand new one.
