Q: What Charger Do I Buy for a Mid-2009 MBP?

I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro with a 2.66 Core 2 Due and a classmate completely ripped the small cord from the power brick so I need to get a new one. Because it is older, I want to make sure I'm buying the right one and/or if there is a cheaper option that works?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Your device shipped with an 85w power adapter, so the rest of the specs

and version build order model number are helpful to attempt to match a

replacement MagSafe adapter with the computer. Looks to be MagSafe1.

The following part works for the non-Retina models as noted.

    Apple MagSafe 85W Adapter for MacBook Pro 13", 15" & 17" 2006 to 2011 Models

    For all 2006 to 2011, 2012 (Non-Retina) MacBook Pro 13", 15", 17" Models.

Flip Plug Included. Bulk Packaged. 1 Year OWC Fulfilled Warranty.

There are additional MagSafe adapters here, to include later MagSafe2:

The only MacBook Pro Mid 2009 with 2.66 processor would be 15-inch:

    {altogether there are four mid-2009 macbook pro builds per mactracker.ca}

    Introduced    June 2009

    Discontinued    April 2010

    Model Identifier    MacBookPro5,3

    Model Number    A1286

    EMC    2325

    Order Number    MB985LL/A (2.66 GHz), MB986LL/A (2.8 GHz)

If you mis-identified the MacBook Pro, use a serial number lookup to help

acquire the correct replacement or upgrade parts. Or ask a reputable vendor

(customer service) for help based on information you can tell them.

A correct part listed above is from macsales OWC, a reputable reseller with

the proper part & fair price. This is an example; other vendors may offer a

copy or unofficial duplicate of lesser quality. Sometimes this vendor has a

replacement battery listed, depending on stock number.

    Good luck & happy computer!
