Q: Thinking of using iCloud, question about documents
I just purchased a new macbook pro and an iPad pro, and I am considering using iCloud, as I can create documents on my iPad and save them to the "cloud," and have them show up on my mac as well.
When I begin using iCloud, does it automatically upload all of the documents I have on my computer to the cloud? What if I just want to have a few items on the cloud? Does it allow me to save just a few, new documents that I create on my iPad in the cloud?
Also, I don't want to back up my mac to the cloud, as I already have an external hard drive that does this. iCloud won't automatically do this, will it?
Thank you so much for the help in advance.

Hi,
What you are wanting here is the iCloud Drive feature of iCloud. This is an icon that is a part of your iOS and OS X systems. You need an iCloud account to use iCloud Drive.
You move documents and files that you want on iCloud Drive to it from your Mac.
It does not back up your Mac. Your iCloud account (not iCloud Drive) can be used to back up your iOS devices but does not back up your Mac.
Here is a support article on iCloud Drive:
