Q: IMac is in loop of switching on then black screen then switches itself back on

My iMac is in a loop of after switch on the apple loge appears and it starts the grey

loading line, very slowly, then the screen goes black and after a few seconds starts up again

anod is a a continuous loop of the above

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

That kind-of sounds like a failing or failed HDD.

Reset the SMC, as per > Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
and then reset the NVRAM, as per > How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

If it is still a no go?
Try Safe Mode, as per > Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

Nothing?
Try OS X Recovery, as per > About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

Still nothing?
Go to > Mac desktops Service Answer Center - Apple Support
