How do I get pictures from an old iPhoto library onto Photos app? My Photos app collection starts in 2014 but I have pictures from many years previous to 2014. iPhoto is not on my iMac. Thanks!
Open the iPhoto Library with Photos.app:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can not add them to an existing Photos library. You can migrate the second, older library and have both libraries in Photos - to migrate an iPhoto library to Photos drag it to the Photos icon in the Dock - to switch between libraries hold down the option key while launching Photos and use the select library window
Photos can not merge libraries - you can merge them by uploading them to iCloud Photo Library sequentially letting each one compete its upoad before doing the next one or using PowerPhotosto merge one version of the photos
