Q: Mobile date/ WIFI assist

I wondered if anyone could help!

I often go quite a bit over my data allowance, but during work and at home so 90% of my time I use WIFI, after contacting my provider they advised that this is because when I go anywhere and use WIFI I should turn my mobile data off, which I was fine with.

Then I discovered that I had my WIFI assist turned ON which from what I believe counteracts the point made by my provider??

So my question is that if I leave my mobile date switched ON & leave my WIFI assist ON, does this mean that my phone should be using WIFI when possible but then using mobile data if the WIFI signal is bad, if this is correct the surely I cant be using all my data allowance as my WIFI is picking this up??

any advise welcome!!

    Apple says:

"With Wi-Fi Assist, you can stay connected to the Internet even if you have a poor Wi-Fi connection. For example, if you're using Safari with a poor Wi-Fi connection and a webpage doesn't load, Wi-Fi Assist will activate and automatically switch to cellular so that the webpage continues to load. You can use Wi-Fi Assist with most apps like Safari, Apple Music, Mail, Maps, and more.

When Wi-Fi Assist is activated, you'll see the cellular data icon in the status bar on your device.

Because you'll stay connected to the Internet over cellular when you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, you might use more cellular data. For most users, this should only be a small percentage higher than previous usage."

It is possible to see how much data the Wi-Fi Assist feature has been using. Go to Settings > Cellular and scroll to the bottom.
